(Sung to the Tune of The Old Oaken Bucket)
The old family toothbrush
The moss covered toothbrush
The wire bound toothbrush
That hung by the well.
First it was father's,
Next it was mother's,
Then it was sister's,
And now it is mine!
Father abused it,
Mother misused it,
Sister refused it,
And now it is mine!
The old family toothbrush
The moss covered toothbrush
The boiled clean toothbrush
That hung by the well.

Thomas Ed, I can still remember those twisted, gnarled, undesirable BUT CLEAN AND SANITIZED toothbrushes!! You can't get much cleaner than that!

You may be wondering about those sanitized toothbrushes. While we were living at the homestead in Alaska, I got the idea that our toothbrushes needed to be refurbished.
I remembered that our mother used to clean our toothbrushes occasionally by putting them in boiling water. They came out clean and useful again.
So I decided to cleanse the family toothbrushes at the homestead. What I did not realize was that the toothbrushes mother cleansed probably had bone handles (or some material that was impervious to heat). Our "new and improved" ones in Alaska had handles made of plastic; when put in boiling water they became "twisted, gnarled, undesireable--unusuable." Needless to say, when a toothbrush needs "cleansing" nowaday I replace it with a new one.
